4th of February 2015

A very early start this morning saw a long, damp and misty decline from the tea/strawberry plantations, very slippy conditions should be interesting for the old snotters with failing brakes and cross ply tyres, we are in a region hit very badly by rains/floods with devastation all around, I'm sitting in a cafe surrounded by washed away houses and rubbish, remains of cars, fuel tanks and trees scattered all over.
Once all the competitors pass through here we shall be setting off in our sweep roles, we know there's the Jag from last night still harbouring problems so that may be the next port of call from here!
The competitors came and went, the cafe had toilets in a shed with car wash written down the side, inside the toilet was the usual hole in the floor but this time the cafe were hanging the cooking utensils from the ceiling, we did not eat here!!
We left the control and drove straight into the worst flood devastation I've ever seen, the water line must have risen by 25 metres and hit a very poor area of Malaysia, a very humbling drive over the next few hours as we met and saw people who had nearly nothing had the nearly nothing taken away from them!
Trying to capture the devastation by camera was a very hard task but that must have been and still must be an awful time for the locals, we left a donation into the disaster fund and left to find our swanky hotel for the night, in lots of ways felt unfair.
Once at the hotel I was in for the long haul working on a model A Ford that had spat its timing gear, fortunately the owner had spares so all was out right!

One of the doctors has been amazing us with facts, he's led with the palm oil debate raging out here as they've seemed to take over the countryside, Palm tree after Palm tree is all we see, according to Andrew Buckley a palm tree can produce 450 gallons of Palm oil a month, after research we've found that a Palm tree doesn't produce that much at all but does produce a tonne of oil every year so from now on in there will be a new topic called "Buckleys bogus facts" coconuts facts tomorrow.

Some more snaps from today
This Is Dr Buckley
