8th February 2015 hillclimbs and elephant

MOwen and I had a really early start today as we had a long way to go to get to our marshalling point, Thailand has very straight roads and very twisty roads but doesn't seem to be anything in between, Thai culture is really interesting with manufacturing seeming to go on in every front room of every bungalow along the route, oft you would see a clothes making business but you would see someone laying on a sofa watching TV, the temperature is getting hotter and hotter and today it is well into the forties, a minimum of three litres of water to drink is the recommended amount but I think im drinking way over that as I'm pissing every ten miles or so.  We set up our marshalling point in a cafe called "cabbages and condoms!"
I know what you're thinking but it's actually the place where condoms were introduced to Thailand to stop the spread of HIV due to the huge sex industry that goes on, not that we've seen it yet although we did see a ladyboy on the back of a truck, either that or she was incredibly odd looking, very plastic!
All the competitors came through us and continued onto probably the most competitive day so far with a long hill climb and two regularity sections,
Owen and I tried them but I stared feeling travel sick so stopped before I threw up!  At the end of the last regularity on the island of Phuket one of the alvis' had a diff problem and we had to follow them into the final control but they weren't hanging about so didn't make much difference, even got to see our first elephant on the trip, wandering off down a side road complete with rider, that was a good one to see.
once we were in the hotel, which is lovely by the way, it was a quick shower and out for drinks, as its a rest day the following day people were drinking too much, me included, and sorry Emma for my drunken call last night xx.  We had been to a live music bar which was great fun as we were by far the loudest group in there!  Another music bar was frequented where I had a long chat with a group of Americans who were interested in our journey and we had a right laugh with them.
A three am bed time probably wasn't a great idea as Owen and I were needed for work the following day.  The hotel is amazing here, a good day should be had tomorrow.
A great Buckley fact is this;  Thailand is in fact an island!  I'm starting to believe he knows nothing!
