7th February 2015, quotes and queues

After a very early night Owen and I were raring to go, we had a marshalling point about 75 kms from Penang, still in Malaysia at a road side dare, or in the car park to be precise, we arrived way to early but set up the marshals area complete with arrows, boards, flags and obviously Paul Simon playing on Owens bluetooth speaker, some of the competitors didn't notice but it was good to see Sandra Merryweather boogie in the car park, much to her husbands disgust!  One of the competitors who's on her first rally wanted to help out so took over from Owen filling out the check sheet.

Possibly even did a better job than Owen!  Anyway this was done and dusted so we packed up and moved on to lunch, we arrived to find a mustang parked oddly so we went to investigate, the throttle cable had come unclipped so with some back breaking positions and a couple of cable ties it was sorted and left, Owen took a rather attractive position of me undertaking such task!

Good job I didn't fall out of my shorts!??  We went into the services for lunch, had the local Malay dish of Nasi Goring, a rice based dish with seafood and chewy bits, I think it was chicken, not sure!  A couple of the competitors where having lunch with someone and as sweeps we could leave without them so they invited us to join them, turned out to be one of the Malaysian princes so the five of us had a good chat, seemed a bit surreal me having lunch with royalty!
Anyway once the little regal party was finished we got into the trucks and headed for the Thai border, what a bloody farce!  Got to the border went to an office, got back in the car drove 100 yards, parked the car, went to an office then queued up at another booth for two and a half hours in direct sunlight, the air temp was 39 degrees but the guard said the sunlight made it nearer 50!!  People were passing out, the army was dishing out water but we still had time to dick about!

Not sure the soldier knew what to make of us?  Any wah the formalities were done and we were off, Owen was the last across the border and fortunately there were no problems, Owen took longer but if I didn't get in it wasn't a problem as I had the keys to the van!

On the way to the hotel we stopped at what looked like a car parts shop but when we entered it was the single best store ever in the world ever, they had everything to fix anything from cars, boats, livestock fencing, ropes, nuts and bolts, paint, netting and even lipsalve!  We bought loads of stuff and it came to about four quid, I bought an iPhone case for about 40 pence!  This was even cheaper than malaysia and that was dirt cheap!
We finally arrived at the hotel and immediately set about screwing the floor back down in a Chevy, bolt the rear suspension together on a Datsun, fix a spark plug issue on a Merc before finally settling down to dinner before an early night.
Buckley is letting us down with his rubbish facts and this is all he has to offer!
Monitor lizards have teeth and claws, they would give you an unpleasant bite.......... Lame, lame, lame.
As a result Andrew, this is for you!

We do though have a new subject, George's quote of the day, let's start with one of her quotes of today;  "it seemed quite big when I sat on his head."  Priceless!

Some piccies from today

Great how they treat their women in Thailand!

The Leyland going of the line!
